Price: £549.00 | |
This Japanese scene desk base, on a blue field with gilt outline, was made by Carltonware in England for Parker in the 1930’s. It is in very good condition and is complete with the black tulip which holds the pen in place whilst on the desk. It has the Parker branding on the edge with the Carltonware logo on the base. There is some minor wear to the gilt on the edging as can be seen on the photograph. This rare and exquisite lozenge shaped base depicts a bridge with pagoda over a river with exotic birds in flight. The desk base measures 16.6cm in length, 9.5cm depth and 2cm in height – a good size to fit on even a busy desk.
It comes complete with a Parker Duofold Junior vintage fountain pen of the period in a finish termed “Lapis Blue” which was extremely popular at the time and remains so today. It complements the desk base beautifully. The fountain pen has only minor colour variation and a strong imprint stating “Duofold Jr. Geo S. Parker Fountain Pen Janesville. WIS U.S.A. Pat.4-25-11” and the “Lucky Curve” banner. The “Lucky Curve” relates to the original feed used by Parker for their 20’s Duofolds. From 1928 onward this curved feed was replaced with a more conventional feed due to servicing difficulties, whilst retaining the spear head feature. However, as in this case, Parker continued to use the LC barrel imprint for some time. The bottom of the barrel has the original sticker which states “13 Fine 5.00” The cap has the Parker rolled gold ball ended clip and two cap bands. The Parker nib states “Parker Duofold Pen Made in U.S.A. and is a fine - leading to medium nib and a smooth writer. This vintage pen is a button filler which means that you unscrew a blind cap at the end of the barrel to reveal a button which you press to expel the air in the sac and depress to allow the ink to enter – a clean and efficient filling method. This vintage pen measures 14.5cm with cap on, 15.2 cm with cap on barrel end and 18.5cm with the taper on barrel end.
It also comes with a desk pen taper which will, as advertised by Parker at the time, “Make a tapered desk pen out of this pocket pen – change back and forth at will – use the same pen two ways” You simply unscrew the cap at the bottom of the barrel (the filling end) and screw the taper on, providing excellent balance whilst it is sitting in the desk base tulip. When you wish to use the pen elsewhere simply unscrew the taper and replace the bottom cap.
An excellent example of Parker history. A rare item which has stood the test of time and is equally serviceable today as a desk set and as a portable everyday writer.

Price: £85.00 | |
This vintage fountain pen was made by Parker in America around 1939. It is a button filling model called the Parker DeLuxe Challenger. It was available in black, burgundy marble, grey and this, the green marble. It is an attractive model with its chrome plated trim and chunky styling. The barrel imprint is still clear and states “Parker DeLuxe Challenger, Made in U.S.A., Parker Pen Co. Janesville,WIS”. The nib states “Parker Pen – Made in U.S.A. .28.”. It has a smooth medium point and is a pleasing writer. It is a fairly standard length pen measuring 13cm with cap on and 15.4cm with cap on barrel end. Condition I have stated as fair to good – it has age wear on the barrel and cap bands and some nibble marks on the blind cap which covers the barrel filling button, however these are reflected in the price. An unusual Parker, obviously well loved in the past and once again ready for use. All fountain pens are professionally serviced by Vintage Fountain Pens Inc. unless stated otherwise and bench tested prior to offering for sale. A further inspection is carried out before despatch. Price: £85.00
This small Parker Duofold vintage fountain pen was made in England at the Newhaven factory around 1941 and is a classic Parker fountain pen of the period. The finish is in a pleasing light and dark green pearl with gold fill trim. It has a barrel imprint which is unique to the Newhaven factory stating: “Parker Duofold – Geo. S. Parker – Reg. TM.” The Parker medium point nib states “Parker Duofold Pen 14k N” and is a pleasing writer. The Parker cap has two thin gold fill cap bands and sports a Parker ball ended clip. This vintage pen is a button filler – you undo the cap at the end of the barrel to reveal a button – depress the button and you deflate the sac – let go of the button and the ink fills the sac – easy. It is in good condition with only minor age wear as can be seen in the photograph. It is a short pen measuring 11.5cm with cap on and 14.5cm with cap on barrel end, slimmer than the standard Junior and is ideal for the smaller hand. A vintage pen in a rare colour from a first class manufacturer – ideal to add to a collection or for everyday use. Sheaffer PFM V - Navy Blue | Stock number: 8028 |

Fine nib, Snorkel fill system. |
£175.00 |
|
Price: £175.00 | |
This fountain pen was manufactured by Sheaffer in the United States of America from 1959 to 1963. Regarded by some as “the best fountain pen ever” this Sheaffer is called the PFM (Pen For Men) due to its large size and (then) new bold styling. It was advertised as “the complete pen for today’s active man” and “America’s newest and finest pen”. These days it is equally popular and appropriate for females who prefer a larger size fountain pen. This model, the PFM V, was near the top of the range with its gold fill chased cap and clip sporting the Sheaffer white dot. The barrel and nib area is Navy Blue plastic and the base of the barrel has a gold fill trim. The (at the time) newly designed Sheaffer 14ct gold inlaid nib states “Sheaffer’s 14kt Made in U.S.A.” and has a fine point. The “clean” filling method is via a “snorkel” (named after the tube-breathing submarines of the Second World War) which extends from the nib end of the pen, combined with a piston fill. It is in fair to good condition overall with some age wear, pitting to the barrel base trim and some slight movement on the cap clip but these imperfections are reflected in the price. It measures 13.5cm with cap on and 14.4cm with cap on barrel end. A classic vintage pen in fair to good order to either add to a collection or use as an everyday workhorse. It comes complete with a copy of the original filling instructions. All fountain pens are professionally serviced by Vintage Fountain Pens Inc. unless stated otherwise and bench tested prior to offering for sale. A further inspection is carried out before despatch. A gift box is available free of charge on request.

Medium to slightly broad nib, Lever fill system. |
£105.00 |
|
Price: £105.00 | |
This vintage pen, which Waterman called the Lady Patricia, was created in 1930 for the female hand, following the successful sales of the Waterman Patrician range – a much larger fountain pen aimed primarily at the male market. The Stationery Trades’ Journal of the time (November 1930) praised its “slender careful lines and smart modish colour” It was marketed as having a “smart, modern, feminine cap clasp – holding the pen securely in place, even in the most crowded handbag.” The first Lady Patricia was presented to Miss Amy Johnson (1903-1941) the English female aviator who carried a Waterman fountain pen during her daring solo flight from England to Australia. It was marketed in a range of colours – this one is called Jade Green. The cap top, clip, single decorated cap band and lever are gold fill. It has a Waterman Ideal Canada No.2 nib in a medium to slightly broad point which is a pleasure to use. This delightful, and quite rare, vintage pen is in fair to good condition with an imprint which states “Waterman’s Fountain Pen, Reg. Made in Canada” with the Waterman’s “Ideal” lozenge. There is some slight colour variation between the cap and barrel as is common with this finish but not to the extent that it detracts from the pen. You will also note from the photograph that there is some wear to the gold fill trim on the lever and the cap band and it is also discreetly engraved with the name “A. CRABTREE”. Hence it is listed in fair to good condition and this is reflected in the price. It is a small pen measuring 11cm with cap on and 13.7cm with cap on barrel end. It is a true reflection of its period and this Lady will provide many years of writing pleasure. This vintage pen was not serviced by Vintage Fountain Pens Inc. but has passed our quality tests and will be further bench tested before despatch. A gift box is available free of charge on request and filling instructions will be sent with your order.

Medium to Broad nib, Button fill system. |
Sold |
This stylish Parker Duofold vintage fountain pen was made in England at Parker’s Newhaven plant. On its launch in 1946 Parker called it the “New Style Duofold”. Easily recognisable with its slightly chunky styling, ornate cap lip band and blind cap metal tassle, it was available in two solid and three marble colours. This particular version is in classic black with rolled gold trim. The barrel imprint states “Geo S.Parker – Parker Duofold Reg. T.M.”. The Parker medium to broad point nib states “Parker Duofold Pen 14k N” – the “N” referring to the Newhaven plant. It is a good size vintage button filling fountain pen measuring 13.4cm with cap on and 15.7cm with cap on barrel end. Condition is good with only minor age wear to the body. This restored New Style Duofold will now provide many more years of everyday writing service. Waterman No.94 Olive Ripple | Stock number: 5367 |

Broad nib, Lever fill system. |
£290.00 |
|
Price: £290.00 | |
This Waterman vintage pen was made in the USA between 1923 and 1930. Waterman produced a series of hard rubber red and black pens at the time, some were in what they termed a “Woodgrain” finish which imitated the grain of wood and others, such as this one, had a wavy pattern which was advertised in 1928 as a two tone “Ripple” finish. They were produced in blue green, rose, red and this, the Olive version. The Olive Ripple is a scarce to find finish today and this is a good example of Waterman design between the earlier plain hard rubber pens and the highly coloured plastic pens which followed it. The model number “94” is clearly marked on the bottom of the barrel. It is a slightly shorter model than the “52”, measuring 13cm with cap on and 16.3cm with cap on barrel end, but a chunky and pleasing size in the hand. The cap sports a Waterman’s Ideal ball ended “Clip Cap” clip with their trademark “Ideal” logo. As can be seen in the photograph, the cap lip has a broad Waterman 9ct gold band. The barrel states “Waterman’s Fountain Pen Reg U S Pat. Off” and has the Waterman Ideal trademark. The same text is at the bottom of the barrel with the additional text of “Made in USA”. It has its original Waterman’s lever with their “Ideal” lozenge. The Waterman nib has the text “Waterman’s Ideal Reg US Pat Off”and has a lovely broad point - consequently it is a slightly wet writer. Condition is very good with only minor age wear to the trim although it is worth noting that there are two very minor “grip” marks on the section from a previous repair. Whilst I have tried to illustrate these in the photograph they are disguised by the ripple pattern. There is also a minor colour difference as you would expect on the body, on the area which has been covered by the cap when closed. The model number has been highlighted in white on the bottom of the barrel. A rare vintage fountain pen from an excellent manufacturer which, if you prefer a broad point is suitable for everyday use but it will also be a fine addition to a vintage fountain pen collection. All fountain pens are professionally serviced by Vintage Fountain Pens Inc. unless stated otherwise and bench tested prior to offering for sale. A further inspection is carried out before despatch. A gift box is available free of charge on request and filling instructions will be sent with your order.

9ct Gold Overlay Barleycorn Design | Stock number: 5296 |

Medium slight oblique nib, Lever fill system. |
£325.00 |
|
Price: £325.00 | |
This quality vintage fountain pen has a 9ct gold overlay with a Barleycorn design. It is a chunky medium size lever filling pen measuring 4.9 inches (12.3cm) with cap on and 6.5 inches (16.4cm) with cap on barrel end. The hallmarks are for 1941. The lozenge is clear and it is a good weight in the hand. The nib states “Waterman England 2A” and has a medium slight oblique point which is pleasing to use. The hallmark reads “HW 9 .375 F + lion’s head”. Condition is good – there is some brassing to cap lip and clip which can be seen on the montage, the cap crown has very minor indents as does the edge of the bottom of the barrel. The cap when placed on the bottom of the barrel for writing is a tight fit - this should ease over time as the pen does not appear to have had much use. Whilst it has a Waterman clip and nib, in my view it is not a Waterman pen - I would have expected to see Waterman branding on the pen itself and a model number on the bottom – so this vintage pen is priced accordingly. It is a very nice quality 9ct overlay chunky lever filling pen in good condition overall and with very little ageing which will provide many more years of writing service either as an everyday writer or to add to a vintage fountain pen collection. All fountain pens are professionally serviced by Vintage Fountain Pens Inc. and bench tested prior to offering for sale. A further inspection is carried out before despatch. Filling instructions will be sent with your order. A gift box is available free of charge on request.

Parker Vacumatic Emerald Pearl | Stock number: 5306 |

Fine to Medium nib, Speedline vacumatic fill system. |
£110.00 |
|
Price: £110.00 | |
This unusual vintage fountain pen was made by Parker in the1940’s, it is what Parker termed a “Vacumatic” due to its vacuum filling system. This particular example has an attractive finish known as “Emerald Pearl”. The model was originally launched in 1932 as the “Vacuum Filler”, the barrel is used as the ink reservoir rather than an ink sac which increases the ink capacity. This vacuum pump mechanism was advertised as “revolutionary in principle and perfectly marvellous in performance”. By this stage, its third generation, the filling mechanism had changed slightly to what was termed a “Speedline Fill” as it is easy and quick to fill. You simply place the nib in the ink and press the plastic plunger at the bottom of the barrel in and out to take the air out of the barrel and allow the ink inside.
The barrel imprint reads Parker Vacumatic Reg. TMS Made in Canada Pat. No. 318982 .6. – which dates it at the second quarter of 1946. The Parker two-tone nib reads “Parker Vacumatic Reg. TM Made in Canada” and has a fine to medium point. It is a pleasing medium size pen measuring 13.3cm with cap on and 16cm with cap on barrel end. Condition is good with very little wear to the trim, however the cap “jewel” is black so may have been replaced at some point. With its broad cap band, Parker “Blue Diamond” arrow clip and “Emerald Pearl” finish it is a most attractive vintage fountain pen. It is now once again suitable for everyday writing or to add to a vintage fountain pen collection. All fountain pens are professionally serviced by Vintage Fountain Pens Inc. unless stated otherwise and bench tested prior to offering for sale. A further inspection is carried out before despatch. A gift box is available free of charge on request. Filling instructions will be sent with your order.

Parker 75 | Stock number: 5239 |

Medium nib, Sliding ink converter fill system. |
£285.00 |
|
Price: £285.00 | |
This exceptionally popular fountain pen range was launched by Parker in the USA in 1964 and, in its various finishes, was produced for the next thirty years. Parker called it the “75” following on from their usage of numbers to denote models which restarted with the “51”. Whilst this “75” fountain pen has a flat gold plated tassle end, it is not the earliest example of this design, as it has the plastic screw thread section rather than the metal thread on the earlier models. The advantage of the “75” nib unit is that the nib collar will rotate if wished to move the nib to an angle to suit your writing style. The earlier models had an “0”on the nib collar which made it easier to see where you had rotated from – this “75”, being a slightly later model, does not have this centre mark but the nib angle option remains. It has a sliding Parker converter fitted to take ink from bottles and, by removing the converter, it will take Parker ink cartridges. The design, a cross hatched pattern in sterling silver with gold plated trim, is called “Ciselle”. It is said that the finish was inspired by a cigarette case made by a London silversmith. With its long Parker arrow clip, flat ends to cap and barrel and long hatched gripping section, it is likely that this “75” dates from 1970. The band around the cap states “Parker Sterling Silver Made in the USA” with the Parker logo. It has a Parker USA nib with a medium point. It measures 13cm with cap on and 14.2cm with cap on barrel end. The ballpoint “75”, again in the Ciselle pattern of sterling cross hatch with gold plated trim, is offered for sale with the fountain pen, and included in the price. With its dished tassle cap end it was most likely made in the mid 1970’s and issued to compliment the fountain pen. The band around the cap states “Parker Sterling Cap and Barrel USA” and the method of expelling the ballpoint is cap activated - by depressing the whole of the cap top rather than just a top button on later models. The cap unscrews from the barrel to replace the ballpoint which is a standard Parker ballpoint refill. It measures 12.8cm in length and currently has a black Parker refill.
The pencil “75”, again in the Ciselle pattern of sterling cross hatch with gold plated trim, forms the final part of the “set” and is included in the price. Again with a dished end tassle, it most likely dates from the mid 1970’s. It is in full working order and recently serviced by an expert pencil mechanic. It has an expel/repel filling method with a 0.9mm lead. It has slightly more wear than the fountain pen and ballpoint and measures 12.7cm in length. It currently has a lead in the chamber as can be seen in the photograph.
This is an excellent late vintage writing “set” in good condition with only minor age wear as can be seen from the photographs. All items are a pleasing weight in the hand. The fountain pen has a comforting click to the replacement of the cap on the barrel following use and the ballpoint and pencil have a smooth action. Suitable for everyday use or to add to a Parker collection.
