Fine to Medium nib, Squeezebox fill system. |
£85.00 |
|
Price: £85.00 | |
The Parker “61” was launched in 1956 with Parker proudly announcing its revolutionary capillary filling method. Unfortunately this filling method was not totally satisfactory in the longer term as it depended upon the owner to use it on a regular basis to prevent ink drying in the capillary filler. Parker, once it had launched its first cartridge fill pen in the 1960’s, gradually converted “61”’s to the aerometric and cartridge fill system. This particular Parker “61” is a aerometric model which means that you can fill from an ink bottle but also take off the aerometic filler and use with a Parker ink cartridge. With its metal clip crown it is a late period “61” from early 1970. The “61”, with its arrow shape inset into the pen shell, pointing the way to the Parker fine to medium point nib, is quite distinctive and rather elegant. It has a 1/10 12ct rolled gold overlay to the cap and barrel. It measures 13.6cm (5.8 inches) with cap on and 14.5cm (5.8 inches) with cap on barrel end – you can tell from these measurements that the cap is long on the body. Condition is good with only minor age wear. The personalising lozenge on the barrel is clear. What appears to be a blemish on the barrel is a photographic light reflection. This is a distinctive and elegant vintage fountain pen which will do well as an everyday writer. All fountain pens are professionally serviced by Vintage Fountain Pens Inc. unless stated otherwise and bench tested prior to offering for sale. A further inspection is carried out before despatch. Filling instructions will be sent with your order.

Mabie Todd & Co. Ltd. Swan SF230 | Stock number: 1532 |

Very Fine nib, Lever fill system. |
Sold |
This elegant “Swan” vintage fountain pen was made in England by Mabie Todd & Co. Ltd around 1925. It is made of hard rubber rather than the plastic which was used for later fountain pens. Hard rubber fountain pens were upgraded for the more discerning customer by the addition of gold fill and other decoration. In this instance two gold fill bands were added to the pen barrel at time of manufacture and one to the cap top. It has the added attraction of a woodgrain hard rubber insert on the cap lip just underneath the gold fill cap band and also on the cap crown. The model is a Swan “SF230” this particular pen could be purchased with our without a clip. This is the clipless model. An advertisement depicting this clipless model can be found on p.194 of the book “Mabie in America” by David L.Moak.
The nib is a very fine point Swan No.2 which states “Swan 2 14ct Mabie Todd & Co.Ltd Made in England”. The section text states “Swan’s SF2”. The barrel imprint states “Swan self-filling pen Mabie Todd & Co. Ltd Made in England” and has the “Swan” logo. Around the bottom of the barrel it states “230 C S-F”. This stylish vintage fountain pen measures 14cm with cap on and 17.6cm with cap on barrel end – a long slim pen. As it is slim it will not accommodate a broad ink sac which means that you may need to refill it more often than a wider pen. This is to some extent offset by the very fine nib setting less ink down on the paper for each letter. There is some brassing to the gold fill trim and wear to the trim at the cap crown however overall it is in good condition. Suitable for everyday use, if you prefer a fine nib, or to add to a collection it is a fine example of a fountain pen of the period. All fountain pens are professionally serviced by Vintage Fountain Pens Inc. unless stated otherwise and bench tested prior to offering for sale. A further inspection is carried out before despatch. A gift box is available free of charge on request and filling instructions will be sent with your order.

Price: £165.00 | |
The magnificent “51 Flighter” was introduced by Parker in the U.S.A. in 1949. This particular example whilst featuring the rolled gold cap band which was subsequently dropped, is slightly later – estimated at 1953. The cap and barrel are in a metal Parker termed “lustraloy” a finish which visually aligned it to the aircraft which inspired its design. The advertising at its launch, which also stressed its dependability and durability stated: “The Flighter…a new Parker “51”. Here is a foretaste of the future – a smooth writing beauty fashioned in a modern mood. Beneath its silvery exterior, there’s the most advanced pen ever created…” . The aerodynamic design of the Parker 51 fountain pen has made it a classic and the plaudits it has received over the years both in terms of design and reliability are well deserved. Its contribution to design is evidenced by its display in the Design Museum in London and the Museum of Modern Art in New York and it has been marketed as “51…the world’s most wanted pen”. This particular model with its lustraloy finish and gold fill cap band, cap tassle and arrow clip is a classic vintage Parker. It has a Parker 51 fine to medium nib. The aerometric filling system is often termed "squeezebox" and is a very simple method of filling the pen with ink by unscrewing the barrel to expose a metal shell covering the ink sac - just press the metal bar and release four times and this vintage pen is ready to use.
This is a fair to good example of a rare and classic vintage Parker fountain pen. It has some age wear to both body and trim and this is reflected in the price. It measures 13.8cm with cap on 15cm with cap on barrel end. The Parker “51” is a stylish pen and an excellent everyday workhorse. All fountain pens are professionally serviced by Vintage Fountain Pens Inc. unless stated otherwise and bench tested prior to offering for sale. A further inspection is carried out before despatch. Filling instructions will be sent with your order and a gift box is available free of charge on request.

Price: £125.00 | |
This vintage pen was made in England by Parker in the mid 50’s. Its aerodynamic design has made it a classic and the plaudits it has received over the years both in terms of design and reliability are well deserved. Its contribution to design is evidenced by its display in the Design Museum in London and the Museum of Modern Art in New York and has been marketed as “51…the world’s most wanted pen”. This particular “51” has a body colour which Parker termed “Forest Green” - a very dark green and one which is quite rare to find today. Unusually the Parker rolled gold cap has a solid green “jewel” rather than the grey usually found - whilst this is possibly a replacement, the combination makes for a stylish vintage pen. The Parker nib has a smooth medium point. Condition is good with only minor age wear but more noticeable on the rim of the gold fill cap (as you will see from the photograph). The aerometric filling system is often termed "squeezebox" and is a very simple method of filling the pen with ink by unscrewing the barrel to expose a metal shell covering the ink sac - just press the metal bar and release up to five times and this vintage pen is ready to use. It measures 14cm with cap on and 15cm with cap on barrel end. “51”’s are always a good workhorse - suitable for everyday use and, particularly in this case, for adding to a “51” collection. All fountain pens are professionally serviced by Vintage Fountain Pens Inc. unless stated otherwise and bench tested prior to offering for sale. A further inspection is carried out before despatch. Price: £85.00

It has two thin and one thick cap bands and the original Conway clip and lever. The barrel states “Conway Stewart 58” “Made in England”. The original large Conway Stewart Duro 14ct gold nib, marked as 58, has a fine point. The condition of the pen is fair to good as stated in the main listing with more than the usual surface wear and brassing of the trim due to age, but this is reflected in the price. This good size and chunky Conway classic measures 13cm with cap on and 16cm with cap on barrel end and is suitable for everyday use. All fountain pens are professionally serviced by Vintage Fountain Pens Inc. unless otherwise stated and are bench tested prior to offering for sale. The barrel imprint states “The Universal Pen – Conway Stewart London – No. 466” around the bottom of the barrel it states “Made in England” and it carries the Conway branded lever. Safety Pen Silver Overlay | Stock number: 5164 |

Broad nib, Eyedropper fill system. |

Price: £175.00 | |
Safety pens were primarily made between 1907 and 1940 – this particular example dates from around 1920 possibly slightly earlier. They use the barrel of the pen as an ink reservoir rather than an internal rubber sac and a spiral retractor mechanism for the nib section. They were felt to be “safe” due to the non-leakable joint when the cap is firmly screwed on the barrel. Whilst the standard production had a hard rubber finish, gold or silver overlays, such as this one, were created to meet the demand of the more discerning customer. This particular safety pen forms part of the “Continental” series – European designs added to the basic hard rubber base produced, for example, by Waterman but without the inclusion of a manufacturer’s name. This safety has a Waterman nib but there is no other indication that it was manufactured by Waterman – hence I have not attributed it to that manufacturer. It has an unusual silver overlay design which is particularly pleasing and is in good condition with a working spiral mechanism, however, despite careful restoration it does have some ink release from the twist end and therefore I would prefer to sell it as a collector’s item rather than a working vintage pen. It has a screw on cap which was an improvement on the original friction caps. The nib is a broad point and states “Waterman’s Ideal Junior – Canada – FDW”. I see from the photograph that I have left some nib on the ink following testing, naturally this will be removed prior to posting. It is a small, but chunky vintage pen measuring 9.7cm with cap on. To fill a safety pen which is in working order, you hold the pen upright and unscrew the cap. At this point the pen nib is inside the barrel. Drop ink (with an eyedropper) into the open end (from which the cap was removed) to about half an inch from the top. Keeping the open end upright, place the cap on the bottom of the barrel and turn it to the right. This will bring the nib out of the barrel to enable you to write and seal the ink inside. To transport the pen safely, you turn the cap on the bottom of the barrel to the left which retracts the nib back into the barrel and screw the cap onto the open end of the pen to seal the barrel. If you screw the cap on firmly the ink will not escape however you carry it, provided the seals are intact. Safety pens, particularly those in good cosmetic order are quite rare. This is a delightful example to add to a vintage fountain pen collection. A gift box is available upon request.

Medium to slightly broad nib, Button fill system. |

Price: £340.00 | |
This iconic Parker Senior Duofold fountain pen, also known as the “Parker Big Red” was made in the USA around 1926 and is a classic Parker fountain pen of the period. It is an early version of this model – denoted by its single raised cap band. It is a very large vintage pen measuring 14cm with cap on and 17.7cm with cap on barrel end. The cap sports the original gold plated Parker ball ended clip with the text “Pat.Sep. 5 16 Parker” and a single raised cap band. The barrel imprint is good and states “Geo S. Parker Janesville. WIS, Duofold Fountain Pen, Lucky Curve, USA Pat4-25-11”. The “Lucky Curve” relates to the type of feed which was used by Parker until August 1928. From that date the “Lucky Curve” feed was replaced by a more conventional feed but the barrel imprints continued to be used until stocks were exhausted*. Normally this would place it 1928-1930 however the single raised cap band is an indication of an earlier date of manufacture - hence this pen is likely to have had a change of feed to the more conventional “Christmas Tree” type during its early life. It has an excellent medium toward slightly broad oblique Parker 14ct nib which reads “Parker Duofold Pen P”. It fills by unscrewing the blind cap at the bottom of the barrel and pressing in the metal button – then releasing – leaving the nib in the ink for 5-10 seconds to allow ink to enter the interior sac. This classic Parker vintage pen is in good working order with minor age wear and some brassing to the trim. It is an excellent purchase either for everyday use or to add to a vintage fountain pen collection. All fountain pens are professionally serviced by Vintage Fountain Pens Inc. and bench tested prior to offering for sale. A further inspection is carried out before despatch. A gift box is available free of charge on request.

Waterman 552v Sheraton 18ct. Gold | Stock number: 5076 |

Medium-Broad nib, Lever fill system. |
£598.00 |
|
Price: £598.00 | |
This rare and valuable gold vintage pen was made in 1929 by Waterman in France. It has 18ct gold French control marks on the cap and barrel and is in a finish Waterman called “Sheraton” - no doubt an attempt to convey the quality of the item. The nib is the original Waterman Ideal nib which has a medium-broad point. The Waterman model number 552v is translated as follows: First 5 = solid gold barrel and cap, Second 5 = Lever filler, Number 2 = the nib size (in this case a Waterman Ideal No.2) Letter "v" = indicates that the pen is a shorter model. It measures 11.7cm with cap on and 15.1cm with cap on end of barrel. The barrel has the original Waterman Ideal lever. Condition is very good – with one very minor small ding. This beautiful vintage pen is now fully restored to working order and will grace any collection and also prove to be a willing writer for many years to come. All fountain pens are professionally serviced by Vintage Fountain Pens Inc. and bench tested prior to offering for sale. A further inspection is carried out before despatch. A gift box is available free of charge on request and filling instructions will be included with your order.
