This delightful vintage pen and pencil set was made by Waterman’s around 1925 in a “Ripple” finish which was particularly popular at the time - and remains so today. The fountain pen has a ring top. Advertisements of the time stated “These types are appropriate for women and conveniently carried on silk guards”, however they were also used by men to hang, for example, from their watch chain. A slim ribbon, chain or handbag clip will suffice today. The pen has one broad gold fill cap band (some plating wear)and a warranted 14k No.3 nib which is more of a fine than a medium point. The model number (52v) is stated on the barrel end. The pencil which, as with the pen, is in working order and recently serviced, has “Waterman’s” “Pat. Applied for” around the top with a slim gold fill band. It takes a 1.2mm diameter lead (Yard O’Led for example will suffice). There is some variation between the depth of colour of the pen and pencil – obviously one has been used more than the other over the years. The length of the pen is 11cm/pencil 10cm not including ring top. Overall they are in good condition and a fine set reminiscent of the 1920’s. All fountain pens are professionally serviced by Vintage Fountain Pens Inc. and bench tested prior to offering for sale. A further inspection is carried out before despatch. A gift box is available free of charge on request.

This rare and valuable gold vintage pen was made in 1929 by Waterman in France. It has 18ct gold French control marks on the cap and barrel and is in a finish Waterman called “Sheraton” - no doubt an attempt to convey the quality of the item. The nib is the original Waterman Ideal nib which has a medium-broad point. The Waterman model number 552v is translated as follows: First 5 = solid gold barrel and cap, Second 5 = Lever filler, Number 2 = the nib size (in this case a Waterman Ideal No.2) Letter "v" = indicates that the pen is a shorter model. It measures 11.7cm with cap on and 15.1cm with cap on end of barrel. The barrel has the original Waterman Ideal lever. Condition is very good – with one very minor small ding. This beautiful vintage pen is now fully restored to working order and will grace any collection and also prove to be a willing writer for many years to come. All fountain pens are professionally serviced by Vintage Fountain Pens Inc. and bench tested prior to offering for sale. A further inspection is carried out before despatch. A gift box is available free of charge on request and filling instructions will be included with your order.

This vintage pen, which Waterman called the Lady Patricia, was created in 1930 for the female hand, following the successful sales of the Waterman Patrician range – a much larger fountain pen aimed primarily at the male market. The Stationery Trades’ Journal of the time (November 1930) praised its “slender careful lines and smart modish colour” It was marketed as having a “smart, modern, feminine cap clasp – holding the pen securely in place, even in the most crowded handbag.” The first Lady Patricia was presented to Miss Amy Johnson (1903-1941) the English female aviator who carried a Waterman fountain pen during her daring solo flight from England to Australia. It was marketed in a range of colours – this one is called Jade Green.  The cap top, clip, single decorated cap band and lever are gold fill. It has a Waterman Ideal Canada No.2 nib in a medium to slightly broad point which is a pleasure to use. This delightful, and quite rare, vintage pen is in fair to good condition with an imprint which states “Waterman’s Fountain Pen, Reg. Made in Canada” with the Waterman’s “Ideal” lozenge. There is some slight colour variation between the cap and barrel as is common with this finish but not to the extent that it detracts from the pen. You will also note from the photograph that there is some wear to the gold fill trim on the lever and the cap band and it is also discreetly engraved with the name “A. CRABTREE”. Hence it is listed in fair to good condition and this is reflected in the price. It is a small pen measuring 11cm with cap on and 13.7cm with cap on barrel end. It is a true reflection of its period and this Lady will provide many years of writing pleasure. This vintage pen was not serviced by Vintage Fountain Pens Inc. but has passed our quality tests and will be further bench tested before despatch. A gift box is available free of charge on request and filling instructions will be sent with your order.

This Waterman vintage pen was made in the USA between 1923 and 1930. Waterman produced a series of hard rubber red and black pens at the time, some were in what they termed a “Woodgrain” finish which imitated the grain of wood and others, such as this one, had a wavy pattern which was advertised in 1928 as a two tone “Ripple” finish. They were produced in blue green, rose, red and this, the Olive version. The Olive Ripple is a scarce to find finish today and this is a good example of Waterman design between the earlier plain hard rubber pens and the highly coloured plastic pens which followed it. The model number “94” is clearly marked on the bottom of the barrel. It is a slightly shorter model than the “52”, measuring 13cm with cap on and 16.3cm with cap on barrel end, but a chunky and pleasing size in the hand. The cap sports a Waterman’s Ideal ball ended “Clip Cap” clip with their trademark “Ideal” logo. As can be seen in the photograph, the cap lip has a broad Waterman 9ct gold band. The barrel states “Waterman’s Fountain Pen Reg U S Pat. Off” and has the Waterman Ideal trademark. The same text is at the bottom of the barrel with the additional text of “Made in USA”. It has its original Waterman’s lever with their “Ideal” lozenge. The Waterman nib has the text “Waterman’s Ideal Reg US Pat Off”and has a lovely broad point - consequently it is a slightly wet writer. Condition is very good with only minor age wear to the trim although it is worth noting that there are two very minor “grip” marks on the section from a previous repair. Whilst I have tried to illustrate these in the photograph they are disguised by the ripple pattern. There is also a minor colour difference as you would expect on the body, on the area which has been covered by the cap when closed. The model number has been highlighted in white on the bottom of the barrel. A rare vintage fountain pen from an excellent manufacturer which, if you prefer a broad point is suitable for everyday use but it will also be a fine addition to a vintage fountain pen collection. All fountain pens are professionally serviced by Vintage Fountain Pens Inc. unless stated otherwise and bench tested prior to offering for sale. A further inspection is carried out before despatch. A gift box is available free of charge on request and filling instructions will be sent with your order.
