This tiny nib box was made by a manufacturer called Hinks Wells & Co. in Birmingham around 1900. The Boxer is one of a sporting series which included Cricket, Cycling and Football. It is in fair to good condition – fair because it is rusty on the back of the tin and good because the image of the Boxer is still clear on the front. It is a delightful piece of vintage writing equipment measuring only 4.5cm (1.5 inches) long by 1.5cm (half an inch) wide which I am sure will be of interest to collectors and sporting enthusiasts.

This nib box is one of a commemorative battle series produced by Gilbert & Blanzy-Poure in France around 1900. This particular box depicts the Battle between France and Austria on 16th October 1793 during the French Revolution. I believe it took place the day Marie Antoinette was executed. The box is in fair to good condition. Whilst it is unoped it has a cut through along the front edge and on the right hand side. It appears full of nibs – the side of the box stating “100 plumes”. An interesting piece of vintage writing equipment to add to a collection. | |
