This delightful English silver and tortoiseshell desk calendar was made in Chester in 1923 and, as you will see from the photograph, the hallmark remains clear. It was retailed by John Bagshaw & Sons a long standing Liverpool family, who produced a range of quality items including leather travelling cases. This particular item is an adjustable calendar, the days of the week are moved by the slide mechanism on the reverse. You simply move this slide to the correct day of the week for the start of the month and the dates will be correct for the rest of the month. It stands upright via the rear support. It is a small desk item measuring 9cm wide by 7cm high and is in full working order. An excellent piece of writing equipment, in good condition throughout and one which will be a pleasure to own.

This nib box is one of a commemorative battle series produced by Gilbert & Blanzy-Poure in France around 1900. This particular box depicts the Battle between France and Austria on 16th October 1793 during the French Revolution. I believe it took place the day Marie Antoinette was executed. The box is in fair to good condition. Whilst it is unoped it has a cut through along the front edge and on the right hand side. It appears full of nibs – the side of the box stating “100 plumes”. An interesting piece of vintage writing equipment to add to a collection.

This exquisite French silver writing set c1890, sits within its original jeweller’s presentation box and includes a dip pen, letter opener, scraper and seal. It is an exceptional item of vintage writing equipment. The ornate chasing wraps itself around the handle of each item both front and rear making it extremely decorative and elegant. The set is in near mint condition with a clear lozenge on the seal. The nib states “Joseph Egerton & Sons (London) Ltd. – The Q R Pen” whilst this is an old nib it is unlikely to be the original. The name on the delicately patterned fabric on the interior of the lid is “Dufour Brassart, Arras”.
The dip pen measures 19.5cm in length from top to tip of nib, the letter opener 18cm, the scraper 14cm and the seal 7cm. The presentation box, which measures 24cm wide x 12cm deep x 4.5cm high, shows minor wear on the interior as can be seen from the photograph. The exterior covering has a ribbon banding design with only minor wear to the lid and a working clasp.
It is an exceptionally beautiful set of vintage writing equipment which I am sure will provide much pleasure to its next owner.

This stylish art nouveau inkwell was made by the renowned German manufacturer WMF (Wurtembergische Metallwarenfabrik) which was founded in 1880. By 1900 it was the world’s largest producer and exporter and became known by its initials, WMF. The metals used were mainly pewter with silver plating and the company preferred to create its own designs from their own art studio – of which this is an example. This particular inkwell is inscribed “15th July 1906 – Hohenzollern’scher Kreigerbund”. As far as I can ascertain Hohenzollern was a small principality within Germany as well as a royal house of the Kingdom of Prussia and the family from which Wilhelm II came. Its coat of arms is a quartered shield which is inbuilt into the design of this numbered piece which also bears the WMF ostrich mark. There is some plating wear but overall it is in good condition. The liner is a new liner specially blown to match the shape of the well which has a curved base. An excellent item of writing equipment of strong design and representative of the period.

This tiny nib box was made by a manufacturer called Hinks Wells & Co. in Birmingham around 1900. The Boxer is one of a sporting series which included Cricket, Cycling and Football. It is in fair to good condition – fair because it is rusty on the back of the tin and good because the image of the Boxer is still clear on the front. It is a delightful piece of vintage writing equipment measuring only 4.5cm (1.5 inches) long by 1.5cm (half an inch) wide which I am sure will be of interest to collectors and sporting enthusiasts.

This 1930’s black leather pen wallet was designed by Parker to carry their Vacumatic range which was highly popular at the time. It has been well used over the years. The gold fill lettering is still in reasonable order however some of the seams around the edges and bottom need re sewing. It measures 13.5cm (5.7 inches) in length with flap in. It remains a rare item and even in this fair condition, with a little tlc, could be used again today or added to a Parker collection.
